Katie Boots
Accounting and Mathematics
Class Year: 2024
Hometown: Evansville, Indiana
Why did you choose to attend UE?
Because of the scholarships provided, the opportunity to study Actuarial Science, and the proximity to home.
How has your program/major prepared you for a future career?
I transferred my major from Actuarial Science to Accounting. I was very prepared because of the opportunity in the Accounting program to take ACCT 499, a 12-credit hour class that allowed me to work full-time for a semester during the busy tax season.
What activities or organizations have you been involved with at UE? How have these impacted you and your college career?
My involvement in Zeta Tau Alpha, a sorority on campus, and LEAD Forward greatly impacted my college career. I got to be involved in something I was passionate about and made a number of relationships. I also got the opportunity to be in leadership roles as I was a part of the executive council for three years, and it directly related to accounting as I got to serve the UE chapter as their treasurer. LEAD Forward allowed me to see business operations at SamTec and work on my leadership ability.
What makes UE a special place? How did our campus shape your college experience?
The people and small campus size have helped shape my experience. Over the course of my four years, despite entering college during 2020, I have gotten to know a lot of my peers and professors on a more personal level.
What advice would you share with incoming students?
Make as many relationships with fellow students and network as early as possible. I was lucky enough to get an internship in Accounting after my sophomore year, mainly due to making connections with professors, fellow students, and businesses through the SOBA passport programs.
Why do you recommend the University of Evansville?
I specifically recommend the Schroeder School of Business Administration because of the available career-focused programs. In both the Math and Business departments, I have found a plethora of skilled staff who are focused on my education: Professor Megan Conapinski, Ben Johnson, DBA, Erin Davis, PhD, former Mark Gruenwald, PhD, and Dave Dwyer, PhD.
